Indiana Wesleyan University's Education and Conference Center is announcing a new recycling program available to the community. Save and take all paper recyclables - newspapers, magazines, catalogs, mail, envelopes, folders, fax and copy paper, shredded paper ( in paper bags) and colored paper to the bin at: 8415 Georgia St., Merrillville. No cardboard, phone books or plastic, please.

This free program serves as a community-based, year-round paper drive.

Play golf and dine

Three courses and 27 holes will be used this year to increase the fun and speed up play at the Merrillville Chamber of Commerce's Annual Golf Outing Scramble on July 31 at White Hawk Country Club off Summit Street in Crown Point.

Cost is $135 per golfer or $540 per foursome and includes lunch, a round of golf, use of cart, dinner, two beverage tickets, entry for White Hawk Country Club gift certificates and three chances to win $10,000. Call the Merrillville Chamber of Commerce at (219) 769-8180 for more information.

Business & Consumer Expo

Mark Sept. 24 on the calendars now and participate in the Business & Consumer "Develop Your Business" Expo and the Northwest Indiana Workforce Development Summit.

The expo and summit will be held at The Radisson Hotel at Star Plaza, Interstate 65 and U.S. 30, Merrillville.

The NW Indiana Workforce Development Summit will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., including a luncheon. Reservations are $35 (or $25 for expo vendors) and must be prepaid.

The business expo will be held from 1 to 6 p.m. and will incorporate a lot of new ideas this year. There is an "early bird discount" for booths reserved and paid for by Aug. 15.

There will also be two free Booth Basics - "Economics" on Aug. 6 and "How to Expo" on Sept. 3, both held at the chamber office. Booths and sponsorships are available now.

Natural inspiration

Taltree Arboretum will celebrate Ten Years of Natural Inspiration from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. July 19 at 71 N. 500W, Valparaiso.

The arboretum opened in 1998 and has grown each year. This free anniversary event will feature games, music, food and more.

There is a complete schedule of events for the remainder of the summer that will include concerts, hikes, tree identification, and planting tips for a variety of flowers and container arrangements. Many events are free to members and cost $10 to $15 for nonmembers. Membership is $30 per year for one person, $60 for families and $150 to become a members of the Friends of the Arboretum.
