MUNSTER | Members of Munster Micros recently demonstrated their award-winning project to the Munster School Board.
The team received a second-place Director's Award and third place for its project presentation as part of the FIRST LEGO League robotics competition.
Munster Lego League is a program that organizes and coaches teams for Munster schoolchildren in fourth through seventh grade to compete in the robotics contest. Participants use LEGO Mindstorm kits that include LEGO elements such as sensors, gears and motors, according to the team's Web site.
The goal is to explore solutions to a real-world problem, which is revealed to all teams in the fall. Teams make formal presentations, design a mechanical robot and control softward for the mechanical design.
This year the project was treating tumors and cancers using nanoparticles with magnets.
Team 13 Munster Micros members are Mohan Yin, Korey Breger, Evan Rouse, Holly Markovich, Chris Markovich and Krishna Hegde. Junior coach is Mike Markovich. Others helping are assistant coach Linda Breger, coach Darlene Markovich and head coach Joe Markovich. The Markoviches also serve as school sponsors for the team.
