The Gary/Chicago Airport Authority board will begin a search for a new executive director as soon as possible following the resignation of Chris Curry, according to authority president Nathaniel Williams.
The board Tuesday appointed Assistant Airport Director Steve Landry as interim director and accepted Curry's resignation. His last day of work will be Sept. 7.
Before a new executive director is chosen, the airport wants to commission and complete a staffing study, as recommended in a recent business plan prepared for the airport by consultant Landrum & Brown, Williams said.
Last week, Curry announced he would be leaving the post he has held for four years at the Gary airport to become executive director of three airports run by the Collier Airport Authority in Florida.
Landry's appointment is contingent on his reaching a contract with the airport authority for his new job. Williams said he did not know if Landry's pay would be increased.
The board accepted Curry's resignation on the same day it selected aviation consultant AECOM to oversee its $90 million expansion project.
