CHICAGO | A 3-year-old Hegewisch boy died Saturday night after being struck by a car in a South Side alley three miles north of his home.

The Cook County medical examiner's office said Julian Pimental, of 13445 S. Avenue K, died at 8:34 p.m. at University of Chicago's Comer Children's Hospital of multiple blunt force trauma.

Chicago police said a Chevrolet Astro, driven by Jorge Mares, 18, of Chicago, struck the boy about 8 p.m. as he was running in an alley in the 11200 block of South Avenue O.

Police are investigating the cause of the accident. Mares was cited on charges of failure to reduce speed, driving without a license and driving without insurance, police said. He is scheduled to appear in court Sept. 23.
