Police force changes dates for gun permits

The Highland Police Department will not process gun permit applications on Wednesday.

The application process will resume from 9 to 11 a.m. the following week on Aug. 13.

HAMMOND

Crime watch Group to celebrates anniversary

The East Hammond/Pullman Crime Watch Group will celebrate its one-year anniversary when it meets at 6:30 p.m. Aug. 19 at the Ophelia Steen Community Center, 5927 Columbia Ave., Hammond.

Mayor Thomas McDermott Jr. is the featured speaker.

The group also will have information on criminal activities in the community in a presentation by the Hammond Police Department. Doors prizes will be given away and refreshments served.

Cal College hosting enrollment day Thursday

Calumet College of St. Joseph will hold its New Student Enrollment Day from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday.

The day is designed for prospective students to go through the admissions process and have a decision made that same day. A completed admissions application, as well as transcripts, will be required. The college is at 2400 New York Ave.

Holy Trinity sponsors indoor picnic Saturday

Holy Trinity Hungarian Church offers an indoor picnic from noon to 7 p.m. Saturday at East Chicago Knights of Columbus Hall, Indianapolis Boulevard and Knights of Columbus Drive.

A silent auction and cash raffle will be available; drawings will take place after the picnic and winners will be notified. Food will be sold, including Hungarian stuffed cabbage dinners, pork stew and dumplings dinner and sausage sandwiches, as well as hot dogs, elephant ears, beer, wine, pop, coffee, water, noodles and homemade baked goods.
