Spay/neuter | Glenwood

South Suburban Humane Society has opened a low cost spay/neuter clinic. Appointments are now being taken for the general public and other animal welfare organizations. It is located in the Glenwood Plaza shopping center on South Halsted, next door to Harlem Furniture.

Macy's Shop for a Cause Day will take place Sept. 20. The passes entitle shoppers to special savings of 10 or 20 percent off select merchandise throughout the store. During the one-day shopping event, shoppers can use discount coupons, see entertainment and special events and have the chance to win prizes. Tickets sales will continue through 6 p.m. Sept. 19.

Cash raffle | Lansing

Lansing Knights of Columbus members are holding their 53rd annual cash raffle fundraiser. Tickets are $20 with a chance for the $7,500 first prize. Second prize is $1,000, third through 10th prizes are $100. Winners need not be present. Drawing will be held at the Cheeseburger in Paradise Fest on the Lansing K of C Grounds, 178th Street and Lorenz Avenue.

ReStore | Chicago Heights

Habitat for Humanity Chicago South Suburbs has opened a ReStore at 180 W. Joe Orr Road. Hours are 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday to Friday and 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday. The store sells new, gently used and salvaged merchandise such as furniture, appliances, kitchen and bath countertops, light fixtures and more. The store needs volunteers, customers and donations of merchandise or cash.

Blood drive | Chicago Heights

A blood drive is from 3 to 7 p.m. Aug. 18 at Chicago Heights Park District: 1400 Chicago Road. Blood donors who donate at a Heartland blood drive or center location on Mondays in August will be automatically entered in a raffle for $50 gas cards from BP Amoco. There will be three winners chosen every Monday. In addition to the gas card raffle, donors will receive a coupon for a free quart of Oberweis Ice Cream.

Cookbook | Hazel Crest

The auxiliary at Advocate South Suburban Hospital is selling a cookbook. Three hundred recipes have been collected from auxilians and their families, associates, physicians and friends and compiled into this 144-page edition, titled "Tasteful Treasures II." The cookbook contains a diverse array of recipes including appetizers, main dishes, desserts, soups/salads and more. Recipes are sorted by each contributor's name. The book also contains a variety of helpful hints, quick fixes, food quantities and cooking terms.

This cookbook is on sale for $15 and may be purchased at the hospital. All proceeds from the sale of the cookbook will benefit the Advocate South Suburban Hospital Emergency Department's Sexual Assault Treatment Center.

St. Victor Church sponsors a community meal from 3 to 4 p.m. Sunday afternoons in the rectory hall of the church, 554 Hirsch Ave. Meal managers are needed to shop for, prepare, serve and clean up during the event.

IKANN, Invincible Kids Accepting Nothing Negative, is hosting a back-to-school giveaway and collecting items for its August distribution. They are seeking gift certificates, monetary donations, merchandise and school supplies. Items needed include bookbags, backpacks, calculators, notebook paper, spiral notebook paper, pens, pencils, colored pencils, markers, dictionaries, folders, scissors, rulers, protractors, compass, glue and glue sticks, paste, pencil-pen cases, three-ring notebook binders, crayons and more for ages 5 to 18. Donations can be dropped off at the group's Hazel Crest location, 17065 Dixie Highway, Suite 23. Or arrangements can be made to pick up the items.

Book sale donations | Lansing

Lansing Public Library and Friends of Lansing Public Library accepts donations of used adult and children's books, audio books and music for its book sales. They cannot accept Reader's Digest condensed books, magazines, encyclopedias more than five years old or books with mold or mildew.

Wish list | Lansing

A variety of items can be donated to help LARC with its day-to-day operations. Residents need items such as tote bags, new kitchen towels, rugs, patio furniture, VCRs, pots and pans, picture frames and new bath towels. The office can always use donations of copy paper, a new laser printer and stamps. LARC is a nonprofit that serves people with developmental disabilities. LARC is at 19043 Wentworth Ave.
