HOBART | A busy day at the construction site of Hobart's new high school Friday led to crews completing the structural steel on the main building.

Hobart school officials along with construction crews watched as the ironworkers raised the final piece of structural steel adorned with the American flag into place.

"To see the last piece puts a smile on your face," Hobart Assistant Superintendent Peggy Buffington said.

She also said she was impressed with the amount of work accomplished on the new school even though the field house collapsed in July after a heavy storm.

"The fact is we're still on schedule," Buffington said, "This is evidence of that."

The school officials also took a tour of the new facility after watching crews install the final piece of steel.

Timothy Flatt, a project manager from Envoy, said even though the ironworkers completed the structural steel, they will remain at the site to complete detail work. He also said crews will begin to construct the brick walls in the field house.

Flatt said finishing the structural steel wasn't the only accomplishment by the crews at the site Friday. He said crews also poured concrete in a section of the upper level of the academic wing in the building.
