Defense challenges her credibility
VALPARAISO | A 27-year-old woman told jurors Tuesday she was shocked and scared when co-worker Pero "Pete" Milev exposed himself and began sexually assaulting her in a Chesterton car wash Nov. 28, 2006.
"I had no idea what brought this on or why he thought this was OK," she said.
She said she and Milev had been a successful investment team at the Chesterton branch of Chase bank and went to lunch to celebrate a particularly good business month.
She said Milev warned her against telling anyone about the attack, saying bank officials would fire a "tease over a top producer" like himself.
Milev, 32, of Crown Point, who resigned from the bank shortly after the incident, is charged with felony counts of criminal confinement and sexual battery.
Defense attorney Paul Stracci questioned the woman Tuesday, pointing out what he said were variations in her story and challenging her claims.
He questioned why she and Milev would be out celebrating a strong business month when November was not yet complete. He also pointed out that she and Milev sat at the center bar at Applebee's restaurant rather than a "romantic" booth in the corner.
Stracci told jurors Monday that without any evidence other than the woman's accusations, the case boils down to her credibility.
