HAMMOND | An East Chicago man faces drunken driving and other charges after police say he hit a house in Hammond with his car.
The accident happened at 10:23 p.m. Friday at 6822 Grand Ave., Hammond, police Lt. Richard Hoyda said.
"It was a hit-and-run accident," he said. "The driver left the vehicle after it struck the house and was later found at 6832 Montana."
Joel Ocampo, 23, is charged with four misdemeanors -- failure to stop at a property damage accident, operating while intoxicated, refusing to submit to a blood-alcohol test and with driving without a license, Hoyda said. He also has a bench warrant from Hammond for failure to appear for furnishing alcohol to minors, he said.
Ocampo initially claimed his car was stolen, Hoyda said. He refused to take a Breathalyzer test, he said.
