PLANT SWAP | Hobart
A Fall Perennial Plant Swap that was postponed by rain Monday has been rescheduled for 10 a.m. Sept. 22 at Deep River County Park, 9410 Old Lincoln Hwy. Meet in the parking lot behind the Visitor Center. Pot your perennials, identify them and bring them to the plant swap to exchange for others. Gardening staff will be on hand to give information on planting and care of your new varieties. Also, bring empty containers for plants that may be divided and exchanged.

MORNING DANCING | Merrillville
Merrillville Parks and Recreation Department offers morning ballroom dance lessons from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Wednesdays beginning Oct. 1 at Pruzin Community Center, 5750 Tyler Place. Robert Lenten, with 20 years of teaching and performing experience, will teach the waltz, merengue, swing, rumba and tango. Enjoy this great aerobic exercise in a six-week program that costs $40 for individual residents and $70 for couples who are town residents, and $45 for individual nonresidents and $80 for nonresident couples. Starring Daniel Radcliffe and Lee Cormie, this PG-13 movie is about four orphan boys, all with December birthdays, who leave their Australian orphanage for a holiday by the sea, only to find themselves competing for a permanent home. Lake Central Band Boosters' fifth annual Take the Car or Take the Cash raffle is in full swing. A 2008 Ford Mustang or $10,000 cash goes to the winning ticket holder if the minimum 2,800 tickets are sold. If fewer than 2,800 are sold, it becomes a 50/50 raffle. All proceeds go to support Lake Central band programs. Tickets cost $10 each and can be purchased from any Lake Central band student or online at www.lcband.com using PayPal. The drawing will take place Sept. 19.

MORNING MOVIE | Wheatfield
Adults are invited to view "Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day," the Morning Movie selection from 10 a.m. to noon Sept. 18 at the Wheatfield Library, 350 S. Water, Water, Everywhere will be presented for students in grades 6 to 8 from 9:30 to 11 a.m. or 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sept. 22 and 23 at Whihala Beach County Park, 1561 Park Road. Look at the natural history of Lake Michigan from glaciers to its present ecology, then gain an understanding of how people have relied on Lake Michigan from fur trading to modern industry.
