VictorFest continues today on parish grounds

St. Victor Parish in Calumet City will continue VictorFest 2008 from noon to 10 p.m. today.

Admission is free.

Entertainment will feature Soundz of Santana, a Latin rock/funk tribute band, starting at 6.

In addition to food concessions, there will be a beer garden and activities for the whole family.

Tickets on sale Friday for Elvis impersonator

The village's Community Center Entertainment Series will begin Sept. 27 with a performance by Elvis impersonator Rick Saucedo.

Tickets will be available beginning Friday.

In November, a Motown Review will be held which will feature impersonations of Barry White, The Temptations and The Dells.

Senior Breakfast Club will begin in September

Trustee and Parks and Recreation Committee Chairman Arthur Bennett announced the village will host a monthly Senior Breakfast Club starting in September.

The buffet-style breakfast will cost $4 per person for those age 55 and older.

Thursday deadline to avoid vehicle sticker penalty

Village vehicle stickers for the year remain available at the Lansing Village Clerk's office, 18200 Chicago Ave.

There will be a $15 penalty for any sticker purchased after Thursday. An additional penalty will be added after Sept. 1.

The clerk's office is open from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. The office is open from 8:30 a.m. to noon Wednesday and Saturday.

Buy animal tags before Thursday, avoid penalty

Animal tags valid to June 30, 2009, are on sale at the village clerk's office. The tag costs $5 and will have a $1 penalty if purchased after Thursday. A $2 penalty will be added after Sept. 1.

The clerk's office is open from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. The office is open from 8:30 a.m. to noon Wednesday and Saturday.

THORNTON TOWNSHIP

Wednesday deadline to apply for tax rebates

Thornton Township has extended the deadline for applying for its tax rebate until Wednesday, said Bob Storman, spokesman for Thornton Township Supervisor Frank Zuccarelli.

Thornton Township plans to issue rebates totaling about $1.5 million to more than 41,000 property owners this fall. On average, that would be about $36.58 per property owner.

To qualify, property taxes must be paid current and owners should apply with proof of residency.

The Thornton Township outreach team will be available to help residents during the application process. Thornton Township Hall's normal business hours have been extended. Normally, they are 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday, the hall also will be open until 7 p.m. Wednesdays and from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturdays.
