HOBART | Former police Sgt. Greg Viator received his promotion to lieutenant on June 13, but a formal announcement wasn't made until this week by Police Chief Rod Gonzalez.

Viator also was named commander of the patrol division. He replaces Lt. Kevin Trinosky who recently retired from the department.

Viator was lauded by Mayor Brian Snedecor, former police chief, for his work in helping update the department's technology.

"He brought us 20 years forward," Snedecor said.

Viator, a 21-year veteran of the department, worked on making sure each patrol car had a mobile computer installed. -- BY DEBORAH LAVERTY, THE TIMES
