CHICAGO -- Negotiations are set to continue Wednesday afternoon between workers entering their sixth day of a sit-in at a Chicago factory, their employer and its creditor.
Republic Windows and Doors abruptly closed its doors last week after Bank of America cut off money to the company when it exhausted its credit line.
About 200 of the 240 laid-off workers responded to their three days' notice of the plant closing by staging a sit-in and vowing to stay put until assurances they would get severance and accrued vacation pay.
Under public pressure from lawmakers, the bank agreed Tuesday to extend Republic "a limited amount of additional loans" so it could pay workers. The workers say the parties made progress in talks, but important details have yet to be settled.
