Breakfast with Santa set Dec. 13 at banquet hall
The Schererville parks department is hosting breakfast with Santa on Dec. 13.
Doors open at 9:30 a.m. at Andorra Banquets, 1112 U.S. 41. Children and parents will be greeted with holiday music and a breakfast of eggs, French toast, sausage and beverages.
Children can visit with Santa and receive a small gift. Admission is $4 for children up to 2 years old; $6 for children ages 3 to 11; and $7 for those 12 and older.
Tickets must be purchased by Wednesday at the Schererville clerk-treasurer's office, 10 E. Joliet St.

Police: Three arrested after shots fired in air
Police said three people were arrested after an officer heard gunshots fired about 8 p.m. Tuesday in the 300 block of W. 58th Place.
Police believe Eljuan Haney, 21, of Gary, fired the shots into the air. Police found a semiautomatic handgun in Haney's pocket, authorities said.
Haney could face charges of being a felon in possession of a handgun, but charges have not yet been filed, police said.
Police said they are compiling information that will be sent to the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, and any charges against Haney will be filed through that agency.
During the incident, Phillip Sanders, 20, of Merrillville, and Madonna Harris, 20, of Gary, were disruptive while police were investigating the situation, police said. The two were charged with disorderly conduct in Merrillville Town Court.

Holiday music event slated Dec. 17 at library
Holiday songs will be played on hand bells at 2:30 p.m. Dec. 17 at the Lake County Public Library, 1919 W. 81st Ave., Merrillville.
Refreshments will be served during the event.

Christmas Walk features six homes on Sunday
The Zeta Psi Chapter of Tri Kappa will host its annual Christmas House Walk from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, featuring six homes in St. John, Schererville, Dyer and Crown Point.
Each home will be transformed into a festive, holiday showcase to reflect the unique architecture and premiere decorating styles of each home. Tri Kappa Holiday Cheese Balls, assorted homemade breads and candies will be available for purchase and sampling during the house walk.
Advance sale tickets are $15 and event day tickets are $17. Advanced sale tickets are available at Hoosier Highlander, 2932 Highway Ave., Highland; Louise's Hallmark Shop, 9533 U.S. 41, St. John; and Brumm's Bloomin' Barn, 2540 45th Ave., Highland.
Advance sale tickets also can be ordered by phone. Proceeds benefit more than 30 local and state charities supported by the chapter.

Home and school group hosts Christmas Bazaar
The Home & School Association will hold its first Christmas Bazaar from 3 to 9 p.m. today at the St. John the Evangelist School gymnasium, 9400 U.S. 41.
Shoppers will have a range of holiday gifts to choose from, including handmade crafts, candles, jewelry, children and women's clothes, books, custom-made cards and scrapbooks and baked goods. Santa Claus will visit with children from 4 to 8 p.m.
There is no admission fee, however, shoppers are asked to bring a nonperishable food item to support the school's Christmas food drive. Baby-sitting is available.
