Festival of Lights | Lansing
The Lansing Historical Society will open its 2008 Festival of Lights exhibit following a brief meeting at 6:30 p.m. Nov. 24 in the Community Room of the Lansing Public Library, 2750 Indiana Ave. More than 30 trees will be on display, representing different countries around the world. There will be instrumental musical entertainment from Jennifer and Joe Saia during viewing. The exhibit remains open through the end of the year. Holiday hours for the museum are 6 to 8 p.m. Mondays, 3 to 5 p.m. Tuesdays, 2 to 5 p.m. Wednesdays, 6 to 8 p.m. Thursdays and 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturdays.

Steel retirees meet | Chicago
Republic Steel Retirees Club will meet at 5:30 p.m. Nov. 20 at Steve's Lounge, 13200 Baltimore Ave. in Chicago's Hegewisch neighborhood. All retirees are welcome. It's $13 for dues paid club members and $18 for nonmembers. Dinner is at 6:30 p.m.

Spaghetti dinner | Whiting
Whiting Knights of Columbus is having a spaghetti benefit dinner Nov. 22 at 119th and Atchison Avenue. Doors open at 5 p.m. It's $10 for adults and $5 for kids 10 and younger. There will be $1 beers and $3 mix drinks. There's also a silent auction, raffles and a DJ.

The Griffith Swinging Seniors group will have its annual Christmas party from 1 to 5 p.m. Dec. 6 at American Legion Post 66, 132 N. Wiggs. The catered meal will cost $12 per person. Entertainment is Wolffgang Girls Music Group. There will be door prizes. No tickets will be sold at the door.

South Shore Arts | Munster
Art enthusiasts are invited to attend South Shore Arts free Art in Focus meeting for a video and discussion on artist Katsushika Hokusai and his work "The Great Wave of Kanagawa." It will be held from 10 a.m. to noon Nov. 24 in the Bachman Gallery at the Center for Visual & Performing Arts, 1040 Ridge Road.

Support military | Lansing
The Samual Cardinal Stritch Assembly 205 Fourth Degree of the Knight of Columbus of Lansing Council 3540, Trinity Council of Chicago, Pulaski Council of Chicago, San Salvador Council of Palos Heights, Coronata Council of Calumet City, Pinta Neri Council of Riverdale, Blue Island Council and Marian Council of Homewood, have undertaken a program to support military troops. In the past two years the Troop Gift Program has shipped more than 1,500 boxes to Iraq. They are again asking for help in collecting items, packing and labeling gifts to be sent to troops. The goal this year is 1,000 boxes. This will be done Nov. 28 and 29.
