Cookbook | Hazel Crest
The auxiliary at Advocate South Suburban Hospital is selling a cookbook. Three hundred recipes have been collected from auxilians and their families, associates, physicians and friends and compiled into this 144-page edition, titled "Tasteful Treasures II." The cookbook contains a diverse array of recipes including appetizers, main dishes, desserts, soups/salads and more. Recipes are sorted by each contributor's name. The book also contains a variety of helpful hints, quick fixes, food quantities and cooking terms.
This cookbook is on sale for $15 and may be purchased at the hospital. All proceeds from the sale of the cookbook will benefit the Advocate South Suburban Hospital Emergency Department's Sexual Assault Treatment Center.

Golf outing | Frankfort, Ill.
The Mount Carmel Alumni Association 2008 Frank Kiszka Memorial Golf Classic will be Aug. 4 at Green Garden Country Club, 9511 W. Monee-Manhattan Road. Registration is from 9 to 11:30 a.m. with a shotgun start at noon. There will be a free driving range from 9 to 11 a.m. The fee of $140 includes greens fees, range balls, golf cart, continental breakfast, course refreshments, lunch, dinner and 19th hole open bar. There will be awards and prizes.

Blood drive | Lansing
Heartland Blood Center will hold a blood drive from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Aug. 12 at Lansing Public Library, 2750 Indiana Ave. Photo ID is required. All donors will receive a coupon for a free quart of ice cream from Oberweis Dairy.

ANIMAL POUND | Highland
The Highland Police Department seeks donations from the public to offset costs associated with making improvements to the animal pound. The town provides services to the community through its animal warden, specifically for domestic animals. Improvements include new security fencing, replacement and addition of cages, creation of outside runs, a separate shed for supplies, a replacement air conditioning unit and others. The project is sponsored by Volunteers in Police Services, who also will perform most of the hands-on tasks. Ken Balon, support services, administrator, is the contact.

RECYCLING PROJECT | Dyer
St. Maria Goretti is recycling newspapers, magazines, catalogs, junk mail and office/school papers in its green and yellow Abitibi Paper Retriever bin in the church parking lot, 500 Northgate Drive. Items not accepted include cardboard, cereal/soda cartons, phone books, glass/plastic, tissue products or food wrap/containers. Money collected from this recycling program will benefit the St. Maria Goretti Community Outreach Food Pantry.

GOLF OUTING | Crown Point
The Steve Szoke Memorial Golf Outing will be held for the benefit of Steve Szoke's wife and child on Aug. 9 at Pheasant Valley Country Club, 3838 W. 141st Ave. Szoke, founding pastor of Impact Christian Church in Merrillville, was diagnosed with cancer at 32 and died in May after a 10-month battle. Cost is $75 for golf, use of a cart, dinner, door prizes, and a hole in one contest. SPAYING/NEUTERING | Gary
The Humane Society of Northwest Indiana has low-cost spay/neuter days Aug. 7 and 20 at 6100 Melton Road. It costs $55 for dogs and $35 for cats. All animals must be current on their rabies vaccine or will be charged a $15 additional fee for the vaccine. Space is limited, and appointments must be made.
