GARY | A pedestrian was hit and killed late Thursday night at Melton Road and County Line Road by a driver later charged with drunken driving, according to Lake County Coroner David Pastrick.

The name of the victim, a 55-year-old white man from Portage, was not released pending notification of relatives.

No information on the driver was available Friday. Gary police could not be reached for additional information.

The coroner's office was called at 11:45 p.m. and the victim was declared dead at Methodist Hospitals Northlake Campus in Gary, Pastrick said.
