CROWN POINT | A Chicago man was sentenced Tuesday to 40 years in prison for molesting a 3-year-old Hammond girl while her mom was at work, Lake Criminal Court records show.

Michael Larry Brown was convicted last month of two counts of felony child molesting for the incidents.

Brown touched the 3-year-old girl inappropriately on two occasions while he was baby-sitting her between Dec. 3, 2003, and April 21, 2004, prosecutors said. The girl's mother, who was Brown's girlfriend at the time, was at work.

Brown said he will appeal his sentence.
