CALUMET CITY | Geraldine Giglio is filling in for one of Lincoln Elementary School's assistant principals.

Giglio is working five days per week, on an as-needed basis, until Assistant Principal Anita McLaughlin returns, said Darryl Taylor, District 156 superintendent.

She is being paid $300 a day with no other benefits, he said.

The Lincoln Elementary District 156 School Board approved the arrangement at its Sept. 22 meeting.

Taylor said he does not know anything more about McLaughlin's absence or when she will come back to her position at the Calumet City school. "We are looking forward to her return," he said.

McLaughlin first came to District 156 as an assistant principal in May 2005.

Giglio is the daughter of former state Rep. Frank Giglio, D-Calumet City, a well-known name in local politics. Geraldine Giglio filled in at Lincoln School last year as a special education teacher, Taylor said.

Her prior experience also includes having served as a principal and superintendent at Shirland Community Consolidated District 134.

She also was one of three superintendent finalist candidates in Sauk Village Elementary District 168. The Sauk Village district ultimately tapped Acting Superintendent Rudy Williams, who also had served as Rickover Junior High School's principal, as its chief administrator.
