One in serious condition after Cedar Lake accident
Two people died and one person was seriously injured Sunday evening in a head-on car crash in Cedar Lake, according to the Lake County coroner's office and Cedar Lake Fire Chief Todd Wilkening.
The accident happened about 6:15 p.m. at West 135th and Patterson avenues, the coroner's office said. Cedar Lake resident Thomas Christie, 32, of the 8800 block of West 141st Avenue, was pronounced dead at 6:45 p.m. He died at the scene after suffering blunt force trauma, the coroner's office said. Christie was driving alone.
Beecher resident JoAnn White, 64, of the 2700 block of East Offner Road, died at Saint Anthony Medical Center in Crown Point, the coroner's office said. White was pronounced dead at 7:20 p.m. from blunt force trauma. She was identified as a passenger in another vehicle.
The driver of the second vehicle, who was not identified, was in serious condition Sunday night at a local hospital, Wilkening said.
More information on the crash was not available Sunday night. Toxicology tests are expected to be performed as early as Monday.
