Woodchucks Woodworking Club
About the group:
Established in 1992.
Members share information and gain knowledge.
Meets monthly.
Mission: Woodchucks Woodworking Club provides a forum to learn new techniques, share tips and woodworking projects.
Special events: Meetings begin with a business review, followed by a guest speaker, slide show or demonstration. Members bring in projects to display and conduct question-and-answer sessions. The club also has a personal library available. Members make wooden toys for charities annually, usually about 200; last year toys were donated to Porter-Starke Foundation. Members attend woodworking shows in Illinois and Indianapolis, hold an annual picnic and holiday party, and plan outings, most recently to Hoosier Bat Company.
Advice: "If you're interested in our club, whether you do woodworking or not, but you're interested and want to know how, drop in. You are welcome," said club President Ronald Benson.
How to get involved: Woodchucks Woodworking Club meets at 7 p.m. the second Monday of the month at Portage Public Library, 2665 Irving St. Guests are welcome. For more information, call Ronald Benson at (219) 762-8416.
People might be surprised to know: "The camaraderie of members and the different information you can obtain from the members," said Benson.
