5-day Harvest of Fun will kick off Thursday
LOWELL | Organizers are pulling out all stops to make the 89th annual Lowell Labor Day Parade and the five-day Harvest of Fun the best ever.
"We wanted to add a few things this year, and we thought the fish fry on Friday night would be a nice fit with the consignment auction," said Sue Peterson, the town's director of administration and Labor Day committee head.
But talk about tradition: This is the 55th year for the Sunday Kiddie Parade.
A two-day cornhole toss tournament is an added feature.
"We know it is popular with all ages, and we wanted something for everyone to enjoy," Peterson said.
The fun will kick off at 9 a.m. Thursday with the Giant Garage Sale on the grounds of American Legion Post 101. On Friday, the fish fry will be from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Legion grounds. The Harvest of Fun Consignment Auction will follow at 7 p.m.
From 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Saturday, the Legion grounds will be home to an outdoor festival complete with vendors, a carnival, games, a beer garden, food and entertainment.
Deuces Wild will provide music from 2 to 5 p.m., as the cornhole toss tournament gets under way. The Mill Street car show will be from 6 to 9 p.m., and Mr. Funnyman will rock for four hours beginning at 7 p.m.
On Sunday, the free festival opens at 11 a.m. for 11 hours of fun. The Kiddie Parade will step off from Olde Town Square at 1 p.m. and end at the Legion grounds.
The group Tin Horse will perform from 2 to 5 p.m., while the cornhole toss tourney continues. The Relics will close out Legion grounds activities Sunday.
The action will move to the athletic fields behind Oak Hill Elementary School, 425 S. Nichols St., for the fireworks show. That begins at dusk Sunday. Those attending are asked to bring lawn chairs and blankets. A $2 parking donation is requested.
The 89th annual Lowell Labor Day Parade will step off from the town's east end at 10 a.m. Monday. Marching bands, equestrian units, young dancers and some special guests will participate in the parade, which is expected to last about two hours.
Following the parade, the Legion grounds again will open for a festival. String Fever will perform from 12:45 to 1:45 p.m., and Sixth Element will close out the day from 3 to 6 p.m.
