Y-ME MEETING | Munster

Northwest Indiana Group of Y-ME Illinois meets at 10 a.m. the second Saturday each month in the Doctors' Meeting Room in Community Hospital's cafeteria, 901 MacArthur Blvd. The topic March 8 is Oh My Aching Back; Alternatives to Back Surgery. Drs. Brian McClenic and S. Ibrahim, anesthesiologists and pain management specialists at Community Hospital, will speak. The session is free. Breast cancer patients, their families and friends, and health professionals are welcome. Reservations are not necessary.

The Dorothy B. Long Wee Wisdom Preschool of Unity Church of Christ (Interdenominational) holds an open house and registration for the 2008-09 school year from 6:30 to 8 p.m. March 6 at 740 River Drive. Calumet City Smiling Tower AARP 4094 meets at 1 p.m. March 5 at the Thornton Township Senior Center, 1420 Huntington Drive. Plans for the rest of the year will be discussed. Refreshments will be served and bingo played. Guests and new members are welcome.

GOLF FITNESS | Schererville

Max Physical Therapy Clinic hosts a free golf fitness seminar with certified golf fitness instructor Vimal Sharma. He is a physical therapist and is certified by the Titleist Performance Institute. First District American Legion Las Vegas Night and Reverse Raffle is 7 p.m. March 8 at Fred Schmidt American Legion Post 20, 1401 N. Main St. Doors open at 5 p.m. for an all-you-can-eat spaghetti dinner served until 7 p.m. Menu includes spaghetti, salad, garlic bread and coffee for $4. Admission to the casino is free for blackjack, dice games, poker and wheel games. Raffle tickets cost $25, with a $5,000 grand prize. Cash bar will be available. Proceeds benefit veterans, their children and the community.

MYSTERY DINNER | Chesterton

St. Anthony Hospice and Franciscan Home Care in Michigan City presents its second Mystery Dinner & Silent Auction Fundraiser on April 19 at Waterbird Lakeside Banquet Center, 526 Indian Boundary Road. Tickets cost $40 per person or $75 per couple, which includes dinner and entertainment. The cash bar opens at 6 p.m., and dinner will be served at 7 p.m. In addition to the evening's festivities, there will be a silent auction featuring an array of items such as gift baskets, certificates and other items. Event sponsorships, program book ads and silent auction items are welcome. Proceeds will help defray patient care costs at St. Anthony Hospice and Franciscan Home Care Services. KINDERGARTEN SIGNUP | Munster

The School Town of Munster conducts kindergarten registration for the 2008-09 school year from 9 to 11 a.m. and 1 to 3 p.m. March 5 at Eads, Elliott and Frank Hammond elementary schools. Parents can sign their child up for half-day or all-day kindergarten. All-day kindergarten requires a $200 deposit. Parents should report to their neighborhood school with four proofs of residency. Students must be 5 years old on or before Aug. 1. Students new to the district also will register.

VICTORY CHRISTIAN | Valparaiso

Victory Christian Academy, which serves students in preschool through 12th grade from Lake, Porter and LaPorte counties, is accepting registrations for half- and full-day preschool. The school, 3805 LaPorte Ave., has begun taking applications for all grades. An open house for preschool and kindergarten will take place from 5 to 7 p.m. March 7 at the elementary school location. Prospective families of students in other grades can contact the school to set up a time to learn about and to tour the school.

LUNCH WITH DOC | Gary

The YWCA hosts Lunch with Doc at noon March 7 at 150 W. 15th Ave. Dr. Deborah McCullough, an OB/GYNE, leads the program each month. This month's topic is dancing to lose weight. The event is free and open to the public. Register in advance.
