LOWELL | New officers for 2009 were installed at the October meeting of the Hawthorne Arbor of Gleaners.
Returning as president for the new year will be Dan Sutton, joined by Vice President Edgar Corns, Secretary/Treasurer Pat Sutton, Chaplain Darlene Corns and Reporter Doris Curless.
At the meeting, Edgar Corns reported that he has also been reappointed to the NACD Great Lakes Commission.
Members reported their participation in the Dean Frigo RDP 5K Run in September. Gleaner volunteers furnished and distributed bottled water to the approximately 300 runners. Members voted to purchase an ad in the Lake County 4-H Handbook and donate $100 in supplies to local animal shelters due to the influx of animals after the September flooding in the region.
Members made plans to provide cupcakes for a Halloween party at the Arc BRIDGES center in Crown Point and signed up to prepare food for the annual Thanksgiving dinner meeting.
Secretary Pat Sutton assisted members in filling out their 2009 calendars and explained how to fill out Acts and Hours forms to record volunteer service for the Samaritan program.
