Halloween bash | Lynwood

Glenwood-Lynwood Public Library will host Halloween Bash Friday from 5 to 9 p.m. today at 19901 Stony Island Ave. Program is for all ages. There will be a spooky movie, costume contests, candy, games, crafts and a walk through the Zombie Zone haunted bookmobile. Registration is requested.

Book sale | Crete

The Friends of the Crete Public Library will hold a giant used book sale from 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Nov. 1 at the Crete Public Library, 1177 N. Main St. The Friends have a brand new selection of used hardcover and paperback books that include fiction, travel, cookbooks and children's titles. Members of the Friends will be allowed into the sale at 9:30 a.m.

Free tickets | Crete

The Crete Public Library's Children's Department announces a ticket give-a-way for five lucky patrons to the see the "Magic Tree House Musical." The Center for Performing Arts at Governors State University presents the show Nov. 22. Patrons may sign up for the ticket drawing. There will be five sets of two tickets. The drawing will take place on Nov. 15. Winners need not be present to win.

Taco dinner | Griffith

American Legion Auxiliary Unit 66 is having a taco dinner from 5 to 8 p.m. today at 132 N. Wiggs St. They are serving tacos, tostadas, and margaritas. Carry-outs and dessert are available.

Blessing | Griffith

St. Mary Church, 525 N. Broad St. will hold its annual All Hallowes Eve Blessing of Trick or Treaters at 4 p.m. today in the church. Little ghosts and goblins accompanied by their parents are invited to come receive a special blessing and also receive a treat and special reflective trick or treat bag.

Jubilee Worship Center will host a Trunk or Treat event from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the center, 415 N. Hobart Road. Children come through the line of decorated cars to receive candy.

Halloween show | Whiting

"SPELLBOUND! The Halloween Show II" is a Halloween musical set to popular music. It features George Rogers Clark students in full makeup and costumes dancing to songs like "Thriller" and "Beat It." Children and students are encouraged to come dressed in Halloween costumes and will receive a discount price. All children will receive a Halloween goodie bag after the show. Performances are at 6 p.m. today and Nov. 1 and 2 p.m. Nov. 2 in the George Rogers Clark Auditorium, 1921 Davis Ave. Ticket prices are $3 for students and senior citizens and $6 for adults.

Night Walk | Munster

Bieker Woods Night Walk will be today. Munster Parks and Recreation, Munster Boy Scouts, Munster Girl Scouts and many local residents collaborate to transform Bieker Woods into a scary, yet fun experience. Tour guides lead participants to new chills and thrills lurking around every turn. Children younger than 8 must be accompanied by an adult. On-site ticket sales begin at 6 p.m. The line formation and ticket sales will be cut off at 8:30 p.m. Parking for this event will be on the west side of the Wilbur Wright Middle School in the back parking lot.

HARVEST PARTY | Dyer

Children age 3 through fifth grade are invited to a Harvest Party from 4 to 7 p.m. Nov. 1 on the grounds of New Hope Community Church, 14864 101st Ave. Activities will include pony and hay rides, a moon jump, a cake walk from 4:30 to 5:30, crafts, games and prizes, and food, ending with a bonfire. Cost is $3 per child or $10 per family. Tickets will be available to purchase for food and some selected attractions.

VETS EAT FREE | Crown Point

Fred Schmidt American Legion Post 20, Auxiliary Unit 20 and the Sons of the Legion will serve the monthly breakfast from 7 to 11 a.m. Nov. 1 at the post home, 1401 N. Main St. In honor of Veterans' Day, all veterans eat free this month. All-you-can-eat pancakes, sausage, eggs, biscuits and gravy, juice, coffee and milk cost $6 for adults and $3 for children 6 to 12. Younger children eat free. Proceeds benefit American Legion projects for the local library, scholarships, youth, veterans and their families. This month, hats, gloves and socks are being collected at the door for local flood victims and the homeless.

STUDENT HORSE SHOW | Hobart

Exceptional Equestrians Unlimited will host a Student Horse Show at 10 a.m. Nov. 1 at the EEU Stable, 5307 E. 61st Ave. Early classes will perform at 10, followed by Sonny's Semi-Retirement event at 11:30 and performances by the late classes at noon. A Volunteer Appreciation Celebration will conclude the festivities at 1:30 p.m.

A BENEFIT DINNER | Highland

Friends of Steve Carpenter are hosting a benefit dinner for the family from 5 to 8 p.m. Nov. 7 at Highland Elks Lodge , 3120 45th Ave. Carpenter was diagnosed with stage four adenocarcinoma in July and is currently in the care of hospice. He had been self-employed prior to his diagnosis, Proceeds will be used for medical expenses and the care of his family.
