HIGHLAND | School Board members discussed details of a $30 million proposed 2008 budget Tuesday at a public work session.
Initial talks hinged on the county's uncertain dates of delivery for taxpayers' property tax bills.
"I can't tell you how important that assessed valuation is," Superintendent Michael Boskovich said.
Boskovich said the school's general fund of $22.3 million, including added teacher and staff positions, is a 2.3 percent increase from last year's budget of $21.8 million.
Budget listings for capital projects increased 12 percent from $3.2 million to $3.6 million.
Board members said roof replacements, improved parking lots and outdoor sports fields are up for discussion.
The budget's pension fund decreased 2 percent, while debt service rose from $2.9 million to $3.3 million, with a goal to retire an elementary bond by the end of 2008.
Boskovich said he was still operating without an approved budget for 2007.
He said the state can't approve the budget until it gets the Lake County rate of assessed valuation on property tax issues resolved.
Another budget hearing is scheduled for Aug. 21.
