CHICAGO | A play that throws together two unlikely hotel guests will open tonight at Victory Gardens Greenhouse Theater.
Nightingale Group is set to present the Chicago Equity premiere of Gregg Opelka's New Year's Eve romantic comedy "Marrying Terry."
During a contemporary New Year's Eve blizzard, Chicago rare books librarian Terry Adams reserves the last room at the Drake Hotel for herself and her long-distance boyfriend, who is flying in from Boston to propose. Thanks to a reservation mix-up, however, the room is already occupied, and the ensuing events gradually compel a workaholic, straight-arrow radiologist to take a long overdue hard look at himself, and his own wedding plans. The play runs about two hours with one intermission.
"Marrying Terry" is not a musical, but playwright Gregg Opelka is known as a musical composer, having written music and lyrics for eight musicals, which have had more than 400 productions.
Shows continue through Jan. 26. Tickets cost $30 for regular performances, and $24 for students and seniors with ID. Half the proceeds from the Dec. 21 show will be donated to NationalBreastCancer.org.
Victory Gardens Greenhouse Theater is at 2257 N. Lincoln Ave. in Chicago.
