PORTAGE | Four students were arrested Monday after police said they got into another student's car without permission and smoked marijuana before school Monday.
The four students -- two 16-year-old South Haven boys and two 17-year-old Portage boys -- were arrested on charges of trespassing and public intoxication. The intoxication charge stems from them being high on marijuana, Portage police Cpl. Troy Williams said.
The South Haven boys also were charged with possession of drug paraphernalia after marijuana pipes were found in their shoes, Williams said.
Williams, who serves as school resource officer, said he received a tip about the teens smoking marijuana in a car in the parking lot. He said the teens soon walked into school smelling of marijuana. An investigation showed one of them rode to school with a girl and knew her car was unlocked and could be used as a place for smoking marijuana.
