Three adults arrested, three children removed

Portage police said they arrested three people on drug charges at a Portage home and had Child Protective Services remove three children from the home.

The arrests were made Friday morning at 6663 Railroad Ave.

A resident of the home, Heather Alsop, 23, was arrested on charges of child neglect, visiting a common nuisance, possession of heroin and possession of paraphernalia. A visitor to the home, Lindsey Rozgony, 24, of Crown Point, was arrested on the same charges.

Another resident of the home, Judy Alsop, 53, was arrested on charges of maintaining a common nuisance and child neglect.

Police said five bags of a white powder, two smoking pipes and four needles were found in the home.

VALPARAISO

Police seek infomation about suspicious man

Valparaiso University police sent out an alert over the weekend after a suspicious man was seen watching women and partially exposing himself at the VU Center for the Arts.

The perpetrator is a white male in his late 20s or early 30s, 5-foot-11 to 6 feet tall, slim build, with short hair and a narrow face. He was wearing blue jeans and a blue jacket. Anyone with information is asked to call police at (219) 464-5430.

PINE TOWNSHIP

Police accuse juvenile of fleeing and drinking

Porter County police responded to a report of juveniles possibly breaking into cars at 1:39 a.m. Saturday in the area of 4001 E. U.S. 12.

Police said the juveniles ran, but police caught one of them and arrested him on fleeing and underage drinking charges. Police said the boy was bitten by a police canine during the arrest. The boy, who denied breaking into cars, gave the names of the two juveniles he was with.

CHESTERTON

Caller says elderly man was mugged, kidnapped

Chesterton police received a report at 1:11 p.m. Friday that three men apparently mugged an elderly man and forced him into a Cadillac in the area of 750 Indian Boundary Road.

A police officer said the vehicle description matched that of a vehicle driven by the caretakers at a group home in Chesterton. Police investigated and determined the caretakers were responsible for forcing the man into a car.

One of the caretakers told police their elderly client has a disorder in which he wants to put cigarette butts in his mouth. The caretaker told police the client lunged for a cigarette butt at the Kmart entrance, so they restrained him and terminated the outing. The caretaker said that outings are attempted daily with the goal of getting through an outing with no problems.

Police find canister of kerosene at arson site

A resident of Grant Street told police that her mobile home caught fire and that two juveniles were seen running from the home.

Julie McMeans told police the home sustained $200 damage. The fire was put out before firefighters arrived. Police found a milk jug of kerosene that was used in the Friday evening arson.

CHESTERTON

Man hears explosion; police find pipe bomb

A man walking his dog down Morgan, near the entrance to Coffee Creek Park, heard an explosion Thursday evening and saw a dark Jeep Wrangler leave the park.

The man discovered a fence post sustained $100 damage. Police said they located the pipe bomb that caused the damage.

PORTAGE

35-year-old accused of felony child molestation

Portage police on Friday arrested a Portage man on a felony child molestation charge.

Angel Ramirez-Carrillo, 35, of 2143 Capitol, was arrested about 6 p.m. Portage police did not release details of the allegations Monday.

Vehicle theft. West County Road 700 South resident Rodney Taber reported his truck stolen. It was recovered on Oakbrook Lane in Hebron.

FRIDAY

Theft. Woodland Bluff Drive resident Timothy Church reported a gas can and gas stolen from his boat. The loss is $35.

SATURDAY

Theft. Carlisle Lane resident Steven Ivanovich reported the theft of a $400 handgun.

SUNDAY

Vandalism. West Porter Avenue resident Suzanne Clemens reported someone wrote obscenities on her daughter's vehicle.

FRIDAY

Burglary. East County Road 1200 North resident Rebecca Baadsgaard reported someone burglarized her home, causing $1,250 damage and taking a $1,650 television, a $600 ring and possibly other items.

SUNDAY

Vandalism. North County Road 550 East resident Evelyn Watson reported someone threw a baseball through her window, causing $250 damage.

LIBERTY TOWNSHIP

FRIDAY

Residential entry. North Meridian Road resident Christine Dzur reported someone entered her home. It isn't known if anything was stolen.

SUNDAY

Theft. Covington Drive resident John Johnson told police someone entered his vehicle and stole a $1,500 projector and a $300 camera.

Vandalism. Aspen Drive resident Bertha Reed reported $50 damage to a home window.

Theft. Stonegate Court resident William Warren Jr. reported a $250 GPS unit and a $215 iPod stolen from his car.

MORGAN TOWNSHIP

SATURDAY

Vandalism. East County Road 400 South resident James Stanley told police someone drove onto his yard and made circles, causing $25 damage.

PINE TOWNSHIP

SATURDAY

Theft. Willow Street resident Arthur Coleman III reported $1,400 worth of stereo equipment stolen from his car.

Arrests. Two Kouts residents were arrested on possession of a controlled substance charges at 3:15 a.m. at the Marathon gas station at U.S. 20 and Willowcreek Road. Police said Steven Kuhl, 19, and Jamison Burrick, 32, possessed ecstasy and other pills.

Vandalism. Center Street resident Bruce Guillaum reported $200 damage to his car.

Vandalism. Someone broke a door window at RLM, 906 Washington St. The damage is $150.

Attempted burglary. Brummitt Road resident Danielle Jacobs reported $100 damage to a door window during an attempted burglary.

SUNDAY

Theft. Riverline Drive resident Anne Hiestand reported the theft of two chain link fence gates. The loss is $100.
