WINFIELD | A Winfield town councilman resigned his liaison position to the street department.

In addition to attending meetings, council members work with a department to make sure services are met and to provide a voice on the council regarding the needs for each department.

Councilman Jeff Wozniewski was the street department liaison. Wozniewski said he resigned his post because the town doesn't have the resources to complete essential tasks.

"Sometimes, the council as a whole gives us directives to do things, and I get it done. Then I find out there was no money to do it," he said. "I will continue to help out in whatever way I can. I just don't want to take the lead position anymore.

"Our streets are horrible," Wozniewski said. "We need to be committed to doing the things we need to do."

The council didn't appoint anyone to the position during its study session Tuesday. Council members are expected to discuss the issue April 17.

Winfield office manager Heidi Kendall said the street department superintendent, John Lincoln, is "handling everything" until a new liaison is selected.
