TROOP DONATIONS | Schererville/C.P.

Keller Williams Realty of Northwest Indiana is collecting donations for soldiers. Items should be individuals bags or small packages such as crackers, candy, fruit snacks, juice boxes, granola bars and beef jerky. Magazines, books, CD's, phone cards, writing tablets and personal letters of inspiration and gratitude also are welcome. Drop boxes will be at 1425 Eagle Ridge Drive in Schererville (behind Red Robin) and at 503 E. Summit St. in Crown Point.

SPAGHETTI DINNER | Hammond

Hammond Hermits hosts a spaghetti dinner fundraiser from 1 to 7 p.m. April 12 at Hammond Mohawks Club, 4140 Calumet Ave. Tickets cost $5 in advance and $7 at the door; it's $5 for seniors 62 and older, and children 3 and younger eat for free. A silent auction takes place from 2 to 6 p.m. A cash bar will be available. Registration will be taken for the 2008 baseball season. All paid players receive a free diner. A bake sale and raffles will be included.

BENEFIT HOG ROAST | Lowell

A hog roast, bake sale and silent auction will be held 4 to 8 p.m. April 12 at Trinity Lutheran Church, 631 W. Commercial Ave., for the Jeff Smith family of Lowell. Proceeds will go to assist the family with everyday expenses during Smith's stay at The University of Chicago Burn Unit. He was burned in a work-related accident March 9, suffering third-degree burns over 50 percent of his body. The silent auction, through 7 p.m. April 12, includes many items, including a queen pillow top mattress, Ducks Unlimited framed print and a diamond anniversary ring. To make a monetary donation, send it to Trinity Lutheran Church, 631 W. Commercial Ave., Lowell, IN 46356 with "Smith Family" on the memo line.

SPAGHETTI DINNER | Griffith

American Legion Post 66 has an all-you-can-eat spaghetti and salad bar dinner from 4 to 7 tonight at the post, 132 N. Wiggs St. Adults eat for $8, seniors eat for $7 and children eat for $6. Carryouts are available. Desserts will be sold.

BROTHERHOOD BASH | Porter

The Region Chapter of the Rolling Inferno with the Porter VFW Post 2511 is sponsoring a Brotherhood Bash from 6 p.m. to midnight April 19 at the Porter VFW, 1290 Wagner Road. The Brotherhood Bash is held the same weekend as the Duneland Fire School that brings firefighters in from all over the state. The Rolling Inferno is a group of motorcycle enthusiasts who also are firefighters and/or emergency personnel who raise money for the Hoosier Burn Camp, a camp especially for those children who are victims of fires. The event includes a meal of Italian beef sandwich and cold salads with soft drinks for a donation of $10. For a donation of $20, participants get the meal and a monitored self-serve beer bar, with a valid ID.
