Finance official attends public investors seminar

Thornton Township Finance Director Elaine Krueger was among 60 public investors from across the state who attended a financial training seminar Sept. 17 and 18 that Illinois State Treasurer Alexi Giannoulias hosted.

The Public Investors' Fall Financial Symposium in Arlington Heights provided training on several finance, accounting, information technology and budgeting topics for custodians of public funds.

"With these market conditions, it is more important than ever for us as public investors to make sure we protect and soundly invest taxpayer dollars," Giannoulias said.

WILL COUNTY

County to receive grant for preservation work

After being named a Preserve America Community last spring, Will County recently found out it is one of only two Illinois communities that will receive a Preserve America grant for 2008.

The county will receive $25,000 to use toward its Historic Preservation Commission's rural historical structural intensive survey project. Overseen by the county's Land Use Department, the commission has been involved in the survey project since its inception.

"Earlier this year, we celebrated as a Preserve America community and hosted a tour to visit a few of the county's historic sites," Will County Executive Larry Walsh said. "Our roots are important, so coming together with mayors, board members and community members to enjoy a piece of history was a good thing. Now we can take another positive step toward historic preservation by receiving this competitive award."
