Autumn festival concludes today at Lake Hills Park
The two-day event A Taste of St. John wraps up today at Lake Hills Park.
The festival lasts from noon to 9 p.m. at the park, which is located off 85th Avenue on Lake Hills Drive.
Local food vendors, express train rides, a hay maze, a pumpkin patch, hay rides, music and a petting zoo are among the festivities. A children's haunted house will be open from noon to 4 p.m. Admission is $5 at the door.

SCHERERVILLE
Part of Junction Ave. closed for three days
A small portion of a Schererville street will be closed for part of this week.
Junction Avenue will be closed from Joliet Street to Redar Drive on Wednesday through Friday, as crews work on the southeast sewer interceptor project.
Motorists should avoid this area or use Redar Street and Austin Avenue as an alternate route.
MERRILLVILLE
Monday deadline for theater trip on Nov. 29
The Merrillville parks department is planning a trip to see "A Christmas Carol" on Nov. 29 at the Drury Lane Theater.
Parents and children will have a breakfast buffet with Santa before watching the program.
The cost for residents is $45 for adults and $33 for children 12 and younger. For nonresidents, the program costs $47 for adults and $35 for children 12 and younger.
Payment and registration are due by Monday.

Railroad swap meet from 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. today
A Model Railroad Show and Swap Meet is from 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. today at St. Matthias Church Hall, 101 W. Burrell Drive.
Sponsored by the St. Matthias Men's Club, the show features Lionel Model Train and Thomas the Tank Engine layouts, Ho, N, G, Lionel gauges and all items associated with model railroading. Admission is $3 for adults and $1 for children. Refreshments will be available for purchase.
WINFIELD
Church hosts Halloween activities for kids today
Church of the Four Seasons hosts a "Trunk or Treat" from 4 to 6:30 p.m. today at the church, 9100 E. 109th Ave., across from the Lakes of the Four Seasons entrance.
There will be a bonfire, hot dogs, S'mores, hay rides and a children's costume parade and contest (no scary costumes please) and Trunk or Treat, with children trick-or-treating from the trunk of cars instead of walking through the neighborhoods.
Adults are welcome to bring treats and distribute them to the youngsters from their cars.

Chefs showcase talents Monday at Avalon Manor
The seventh annual Chefs Culinary Showcase will be held at 6 p.m. Monday at Avalon Manor, 3550 E. U.S. 30.
Sponsored by The Times, this event to benefit the March of Dimes features a tasting of signature delicacies from area chefs, followed by a program and live and silent auctions.
