High school choral has final concert on Sunday

Griffith High School's choral program hosts its final concert at 3 p.m. Sunday.

Playing to the theme, "The Beatles and Hairspray," the show includes soloists, dancing and live karaoke from audience participation.

Tickets are $4 at the door. Doors open about 2:20 p.m.

Refreshments sold during intermission.

Illiana Speedway hosts canine/feline food drive

The Illiana Motor Speedway hosts the sixth annual canine and feline food drive tonight.

Fans and competitors are encouraged to bring a nonperishable pet food item to the speedway ticket office where they will receive a numbered ticket for a chance to win free race credentials to a future race at the speedway.

The donations are distributed to area shelters to help offset the cost of caring for abandoned animals.

"This project is close and dear to my heart," said Rhonda Alger, track operations manager.

Humane society representatives will be on hand with information on how to adopt a pet.

The Indiana Fallen Officer blood drive is from 2 to 8 p.m. June 20 at the Highland Elks Lodge Hall, 3120 - 45th Ave.

Monday is Citywide Crime Watch meeting with cops

Topics of interest to all Hammond residents will be discussed at the next meeting of the Hammond Citywide Crime Watch.

Meetings begin at 6:30 p.m. at the Hammond Police Department Sector 7 Office, 6820 McCook Ave. The substation is located next to Van Til's on 169th Street.

Facilitating will be Hammond police Community Affairs Officer Scott Holbrook and Citywide Crime Watch President Ken Baker.

HAMMOND

Home show set for this weekend at civic center

United Neighborhoods Inc. hosts the first annual home show Saturday and Sunday at the Hammond Civic Center, 5825 Sohl Ave.

It includes pointers on inspecting your home, foreclosure seminars and information booths. Hours are 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. today and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday. Admission is $5; children under 12 are admitted free of charge.

GARY

Citywide cleanup blitz begins today at City Hall

Gary kicks off its citywide cleanup rally with a blitz from 8:30 a.m. to noon today at City Hall, 401 Broadway.

This year's theme is "Cleanup is everybody's business." The blitz will focus on cleaning the entryways of the city, graffiti on buildings, cutting growth in abandoned lots and boarding up abandoned buildings.

Groups are encouraged to select and adopt a public street, space, park or playgrounds within the city to be cleaned and beautified on a regular basis. Residents and volunteers are encouraged to supply their own rakes, shovels, gloves and other tools. The city will provide trash bags.

Community organizations, block clubs, neighborhood associations, businesses and residents who have questions or are interested in volunteering to participate and donate in support of cleanup activities should call the Gary Parks Department at (219) 886-7099.
