LifeLine screenings set for Sept. 18

Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Wanatah will host LifeLine screenings on Sept. 18 at the church hall. The four tests are ultrasound screenings and the only clothing removed are socks and shoes. Cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death in men and women in the United States. Appointments are necessary. For information, call (800) 395-1801.

Health screenings

A nurse will be at the Wanatah American Legion at 10:30 a.m. Aug. 27 for blood pressure and blood sugar screenings for the convenience of senior citizens.

Foot screenings

Podiatrist William Roman will do foot screenings for seniors at 10:30 a.m. Sept. 10 at the Wanatah American Legion.

School news

Sherry Miller has resigned as a South Central Elementary School teacher. Tamara Pinkerton is new in the elementary department. The South Central Community School Corp. board will seek quotes for renovations to the tennis courts and softball field. In another meeting the School Board approved the Insurance Trust Agreement with Midwest Area School Employees group. It also revised rules for fan bus use and field trip use due to the cost of fuel.

The board approved hiring Safe Hiring Solutions to do national criminal history checks of potential applicants for school employment.

Andrew Pappas was hired as computer technician and David Paupp as business teacher.

Nathan Mrozinski is the new study hall monitor and yearbook sponsor.

Monte Clindaniel was hired as football coach.

The board approved participation in the LaPorte County Special Education Cooperative.

Extracurricular coaches and volunteers include Jon Rogers, junior high volunteer assistant football; Michael Wirtes high school volunteer assistant football; Ryan Koontz, junior high volunteer assistant football; Jeff Koontz, junior varsity, football. Adam Werner and Ryan Busse have resigned as junior varsity girls and boys basketball coaches, respectively.

School begins this week so drive carefully.
