Family fest | Sauk Village

Sauk Village will be hosting its Family Festival Sept. 12 to 14. The festival is at 1771 Sauk Trail near the intersection of Sauk Trail and Jeffrey Avenue in Sauk Village. This is a thee-day event with free live entertainment that includes Chicago Legends of the Stars like Elvis, Neil Diamond, The 4 Tops, Gladys Knight and more. There will be a mix of country, rock, Motown, hip-hop, game shows for kids, local talent show, karaoke and more. There is also a carnival.

Golf outing | Calumet City

Calumet City Chamber of Commerce is hosting its annual golf outing at noon Sept. 19 at River Oaks Billy Casper Golf Course. Groups will be competing in "Best Ball" format for prizes. Each golfer will also have a chance to win a car as well as other individual prizes. Golf, lunch and door prizes will cost $75 per golfer. Sponsorships are available.

Support group | Hazel Crest

Advocate South Suburban Hospital, 17800 S. Kedzie Ave., hosts a support group to discuss lupus from 10 a.m. to noon Sept. 20. The lupus support group reaches out to individuals and family members whose lives have been affected by the lupus syndrome. Guest speakers will discuss new approaches in lupus treatment.

Senior safety | South Holland

South Holland Public Library, 16250 Wausau Ave., will host Home and Street Safety for Seniors at 1:30 p.m. Sept. 23. Brian Milich from the Cook County Sheriff's Department will share new and familiar ideas on protecting oneself. Registration is necessary.

Late start | Chicago Heights

To help students who were unable to start classes in August, Prairie State College offers Late Start classes. These classes begin the week of Sept. 19 and run 12 weeks instead of the usual 16 weeks. To compensate for their abbreviated schedule, Late Start classes meet longer during the week and cover the same amount of material as their 16-week counterparts. The classes also carry the same number of credits and satisfy requirements for students working toward a degree or certificate. Offerings include art, economics, English, humanities, computers, game design, music, photography, psychology, and sociology. Mini marathon | Calumet City

The Calumet Memorial Park District's 36th annual Mini-Marathon will be held Sept. 28. The 13.1-mile course is flat and fast. Registration begins at 7:30 a.m., and the race starts promptly at 8:30 a.m. The advance fee is $15 per runner, and the fee on the day of the race is $20. Race begins and ends at Memorial Park, 612 Wentworth Ave.

Flamingo flockings | Lansing

The Lansing Junior Woman's Club does flamingo flockings for special occasions, such as birthdays, anniversaries and new babies. A half flock (15) costs $10, a full flock (30) is $20. For locations outside Lansing, there may be a small surcharge for gas.

Street fair | Whiting

The third year of For the Love of Art Street Fair takes place from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sept. 20 on 119th Street in the downtown shopping district of Whiting. Fine artists and craftsmen will demonstrate their skills and sell their creations. Demonstrations will include watercolor, acrylic, oil painting, carving, photography, glass bead work, jewelry silver smithing, wire wrapping, beading, pottery, sculpture, wood turning, scroll saw work, wool yarn spinning and basket weaving.

Bean bags | Hammond
