GLENWOOD | For the second straight board meeting, village trustees tabled a recommendation from the Planning/Zoning Board to grant a permit for a proposed an amusement center.
Trustee Kerry Durkin asked Tuesday to table the issue -- which would have granted a special use permit to Janice Martin to open the center at 18457 S. Halsted Street -- because the board had not yet received a Police Department report about the business' security plan.
Durkin said he wants to see "specifically what the Police Department will accept for the security" at the business, which would be constructed at the site of the former Glenwood Bowl.
Glenwood residents last week questioned what type of crowd the business might attract and its proposed hours of operation -- 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.
"Some of the (residents') concerns are that they're gonna have teens hanging around and they're gonna have gang activity around the outside," Glenwood Building Inspector Lou Hayes said.
Martin assured the board last week that the business would be family-oriented.
A flier explaining what King Edward's Kingdom would offer says there will be 15,000 square feet of arcade, video and redemption games. Other planned attractions include a 5,000-square-foot indoor go-cart track, inflatable slides, rock climbing, laser tag, a roller coaster, and an adult Internet cafe and coffee lounge.
The village expects to schedule a public meeting regarding the business for early February.
