A farmers market and arts and crafts fair is from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. every Wednesday through Oct. 15 at Hubbard Park, Hubbard and Margaret streets. There will be fresh fruits and vegetables, hand-crafted breads, pork chop sandwiches, vendors for products such as Avon, Tastefully Simple and Watkins. Hobart Special Events Committee is hosting its second downtown event this year and has booths available for local businesses. The Hobart Harvest Fest will be held from 2 to 10 p.m. Sept. 20 on Main Street. Both food and non-food vendors, artists, and nonprofit organizations are welcome. A model boat race, cake walk, paddle boat rides and a Lakefront Dedication Ceremony are planned.

ARTISTS MEET | Hobart
The newly-formed Deep River Artists will meet at 6:30 p.m. Sept. 22 and Oct. 27 in the meeting room of the Visitor Center at Deep River County Park, 9410 Old Lincoln Hwy. Artists enjoy demonstrations, learn new techniques, present exhibits in Wood's Mill Gallery, learn of area classes and exhibits and offer classes to members. They also meet in the park to paint together. Some members' works may be seen in the Visitor Center (May - October) and are offered for sale. Artists are asked to bring to the meetings examples of their work to show and talk about - in the form of a photo or the actual artwork, if not too large. There are no dues and no registration.

QUILTING BEE | Hobart
Stop in Wood's Grist Mill at Deep River County Park, 9410 Old Lincoln Hwy., from 1 to 4 p.m. Sept. 28 and Oct. 26 to visit with the Deep River Quilters as they work on the current quilt. This original quilt was pieced together using donated blocks donated by many quilters. Watch as volunteers hand-quilt this creation, giving it depth and dimension. Sit with them and put in a few stitches or learn about the quilting program. Quilts made at the park since 1979 are on exhibit.

ARTS AND CRAFTS | Highland
Highland Parks and Recreation Department's 2008 arts and craft show with vendor fair is set for 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Oct. 4 and 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Oct. 5 at Lincoln Center, 2450 Lincoln St. Handmade items as well as products from direct sales will be available. Applications are available at www.highland.in.gov/parks. Priority will be given to past vendors who register by Sept. 1. Afterward, spaces will be released to new vendors. The cost is $50 for 10-by-10 center space/show or $75 for wall space/show. Not all spaces are guaranteed electricity. Vendors must participate for both days for the full duration of the show. The winter show is 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Nov. 29 and 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Nov. 30. Returning arts and crafts vendors must register with payment for the winter show by Oct. 30 or the space will be given to another vendor. New vendors may sign up after Oct. 30.
