BIKE RUN | Calumet Area

The annual Sandra K. Lawler Memorial Bike Run is 4 to 9 p.m. July 26, followed by a fundraiser from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. The 100-mile motorcycle ride and car caravan travels through Indiana and Illinois. The event begins and ends at Bridges Scoreboard Restaurant and Sports Bar in Griffith, Lawler's hometown. Other stops include Cronies in Kouts, Town Pub in Lowell, Sollitt Tap in Grant Park, Ill., and St. John Pub in St. John. Proceeds benefit Rush University's Registry for Hereditary & Familial Colon Cancer. Lawler was 69 when she died of the disease. The benefit features entertainment by classic-rock band Radio London. Catering is by Pepino's Restaurant in St. John. There will also be a 50/50 cash raffle as well as a live auction. Tickets cost $20 per rider or $30 per couple, which includes ride, food and benefit

or $10 per person for the benefit only. Registration is 2 to 3 p.m., with first bike out at 4 p.m., first bike in at 8

p.m., last bike in a 9 p.m.

FRENCH TOAST | Griffith

Griffith Masonic Lodge hosts an all-you-can-eat pancake and French toast breakfast from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Aug. 3 at 209 N. Broad St. Breakfast includes sausage links, fruit cups, milk, coffee and hot tea. Donation is $5 for adults, $4 for senior citizens and $3.50 for children 11 and younger.

BREAST CANCER BENEFIT | Hammond

A breast cancer benefit in honor of Mary Garza is set for 4 to 10 p.m. Aug. 2 at LaRosa's Lounge and Pizzeria, 6817 Indianapolis Blvd. Tickets cost $15 at the door or $10 in advance. Reservations are due by July 27. Proceeds support Susan G. Komen For the Cure. Garza, who splits her time living with a daughter and a sister in Merrillville and Valparaiso, is battling breast cancer. She received a grant from Susan G. Komen For the Cure to pay toward her treatment.

BIKE RUN, DINNER | Gary

American legion Riders Post 17 host an Independence Midnight Run starting at 5 p.m. July 26 at American Legion Slovak Post 367, 3926 Wright St. This group ride is nonescorted and is about 100 miles long. Fee is $15 for solo riders and $25 for couples. Everyone is welcome to join a spaghetti dinner after the run at the post for $5.

TEXAS HOLD 'EM | Hammond

Maywood Civic Club hosts a Texas hold 'em tournament July 26 at 921 169th St. Ten percent of participants will receive awards. Doors open and table assignments begin at 6 p.m. The first deal is at 7 p.m. Tickets cost $30 in advance and $35 at the door, which includes refreshments.

HISPANIC WOMEN | Griffith

Hispanic Women's Forum of Northwest Indiana will hold a membership drive from 6 to 9 p.m. July 30 at Jedi's restaurant, 444 W. Ridge Road. The forum is a not-for-profit organization whose mission is to promote further education in Hispanic female high school students by awarding scholarships and to participate in community service.

PLAY BINGO | Gary

The Holy Name Society of St. Joseph the Worker Croatian Church hosts bingo at 2 p.m. Aug. 3 in the church hall, 330 E. 45th. Ave. Admission is $2 per person. Early bird bingo begins at 1:30 p.m. Refreshments will be available for purchase. All are welcome.

MOTORCYCLE RUN | Schererville

American Legion Post 485 Riders host a motorcycle run to benefit the northwest Indiana Special Education Cooperative early childhood disabilities classrooms. Rider start at the post, 7485 Burr St. The cost is $15 for single riders and $25 for couples. Sign in at 10 a.m. with the first bike out at 11 a.m. Music will be by Wind Gypsys.

Polka picnic | Glenwood

A polka picnic begins at noon July 27 at PACF Farm and Grove, 18600 Glenwood-Thornton Road. Music will be from 2 to 6 p.m. and other activities include free paddle boat rides, bingo, a fishing derby and door prizes. Bring your own lawn chair. Food and beverages will be available and no coolers or BYOB are allowed. Tickets will cost $10 at the gate or $7 in advance. Children 12 and younger are admitted free.

CLOTHING GIVEAWAY | Hammond

St. John Bosco Church offers its annual clothing giveaway from 9 a.m. to noon July 26 in the school cafeteria, 171st and columbia Avenue. All sizes and all seasons of clothing will be available. The public is welcome.

WEIGHT LOSS | Griffith

A weight loss challenge begins at 6:30 p.m. July 28 in room 306 of First United Methodist Church, 400 W. 44th Place. The 12-week program offers free tips on proper nutrition, food choices and encourages exercise; weekly personal coaching and a metbolism test are included. Meetings will be at 6:30 p.m. Mondays at the church. The first session will focus on the rules of the challenge and how the program works. Attendees can register for the challenge for $29. Most of that fee will go to the three people who lose the most weight at the end of the challenge. RSVP for the first session.

YOUTH CONFERENCE | Gary

The second Northwest Indiana R.O.Y.A.L. Youth Summit, a one-day music and ministry conference for teens and young adults, will be hosted by Nikia Hammonds-Blakely from 2 to 9 p.m. Aug. 14 at the Genesis Convention Center, One Genesis Center Plaza. Theme is "Chosen from Birth to Reign on Earth" and the day includes interactive workshops, food, gifts, prizes and a concert featuring Joy Oliver and Mind Over Matter, of Chicago. Cost is $10 until Aug. 1 and $15 after that date. Classes will be grouped by age, 13 to 15, 16 and 17 and 18 and older.

Hammond Christian Reformed Church is sponsoring parking lot parties this summer this summer. KNIGHTS RAFFLE | Calumet City

The Knights of Columbus Coronata Council 3806 are going to be selling raffle tickets July 26 and 27 and Aug. 1, 2 and 3 at the following locations: Ted's Restaurant, 580 Burnham Ave.; Tom's Restaurant, 894 Burnham Ave.; and Aunt Sally's Restaurant, 1215 Burnham Ave. There are 72 cash prizes, and first prize is $25,000.
