LAPORTE | La Lumiere School welcomes six distinguished additions to the faculty and staff community. Each new candidate brings with them knowledge and experience in their subject area and deep commitment to independent school education. Their diversity will enhance the current programs and their talents will allow for more extra-curricular offerings.
Emma Wynn is from the Boston area and has recently earned her master's from Harvard. Wynn completed her undergraduate work at Dartmouth where she graduated summa cum laude with a degree in religion. Wynn will teach Old and New Testament and she and her husband Doran will reside on campus.
New to the math department is Dustin Smith. Originally from Indiana, Smith joins La Lumiere from Thomas Sumter Academy in South Carolina where he was the math department chair. He also served as a teaching assistant at the University of South Carolina. He graduated from Huntington University with a bachelor's in mathematics and is close to completing his master's in mathematics from the University of South Carolina. He has taught calculus, physics, geometry, algebra, statistics and computer programming. Smith will reside on campus.
Mary O'Malley has already settled on campus as she joined La Lumiere in mid-July as director of admissions. A graduate of The Latin School of Chicago and Knox College, she is currently pursuing a master's at Washington University in St. Louis. O'Malley previously served as an admission counselor at Knox as well as working for ConnectEdu, an educational solutions company.
While at Knox, she served as captain of the swimming and water polo teams and worked in the admission office as an ambassador for four years. She remains active at Knox serving as chair of the Young Alumni Steering Committee. She will reside on campus.
The latest addition to the La Lumiere team, Ellen Worth, is a recent graduate of Butler University and will serve La Lumiere as assistant director of admissions. An active member in service trips, her church, theater organizations, her college a capella group, and numerous athletic teams, Worth brings her energy and enthusiasm to the admissions office and to campus. She will reside on campus.
JuliAnn Merrion is originally from Michigan City and attended Marquette High School where she excelled as a scholar-athlete-artist. Merrion graduated from St. Mary's College, Notre Dame, where she earned a bachelor's. in english literature. She has extensive music and drama experience working locally with the Dunes Summer Theatre. Merrion will reside on campus and will be teaching English as a second language and music appreciation. Art Walker joins the La Lumiere community as assistant dean of students and will teach in the English department. Walker received his bachelor's. in English from Coastal Carolina University and a master's from Liberty University. Walker comes to La Lumiere from Christchurch School in Virginia. Walker and his wife, Bethany, will reside on campus, and their son Deion will be in his first year at the University of Notre Dame.
La Lumiere is a coeducational lay Catholic boarding and day school that provides a comprehensive college-preparatory, high school education for qualified young men and women from a rich diversity of backgrounds. It seeks to develop character, scholarship and faith, while remaining both independently accredited and faithful to its Catholic heritage. Current enrollment is 177 students.
