Man accidentally shoots his toe

PORTER TOWNSHIP | A Porter Township man was stepping outside his home shortly before 9 p.m. Monday to shoot a coyote, but his .22-caliber rifle accidentally discharged, striking the big toe on one of his feet, Porter County police said.

The man, Carl Klahn Sr., 77, of the 100 block of south County Road 300 West, was taken by ambulance to Porter Valparaiso Hospital Campus. He was treated and released.

Klahn told police he didn't have his hand on the trigger when it discharged.

Portage woman reports dog stolen

PORTAGE | A Portage woman reported Sunday evening that someone burglarized her home, stealing her tan and black Dachshund.

The woman, Samantha Thompson, of the 1800 block of Adams, told police the dog is worth $1,000. No other items were reported stolen.

Man charged after road rage incident

VALPARAISO | Valparaiso University police on Tuesday filed three criminal charges against a man accused of pointing a shotgun at another man during a road rage incident at 6 p.m. Monday at U.S. 30 and Sturdy Road.

Ronald Grover, 29, of Hebron, was charged with intimidation, criminal recklessness and pointing a firearm.

University Police Chief Ed Lloyd said two of his officers found Grover on campus after the incident. They discovered two shotguns in his vehicle.

MONDAY

Vandalism. Lake Park Drive resident Jeff Reeves reported a tree and a wooden post were spray painted with graffiti. In addition, paintballs were shot in the area.

CHESTERTON

MONDAY

Counterfeiting. WiseWay in Chesterton reported that a customer tried to pay with a counterfeit $50 bill. The store confiscated it and turned it over to police.

MORGAN TOWNSHIP

MONDAY

Theft. County Road 200 South residents David and Terri Ahlberg reported $800 worth of gasoline stolen from the outdoor gasoline storage tank near their pole barn.

PORTAGE

MONDAY

Vandalism. Airport Road Professional Center/Gary Germann law office reported $120 damage to air conditioning units in an attempt to steal them.

Arrest. A 15-year-old Valparaiso boy was arrested after police said he possessed and dealt pills. The incident occurred on Evergreen Avenue in Portage.

Theft. Wexford Road resident Debra Batistatos reported her $25 sunglasses and a $200 cellular phone with charger stolen from a car at her home.

VALPARAISO

Theft. A van belonging to Tri-State Door Solutions in Portage was broken into outside Heinold & Feller, 1707 E. Lincolnway, Valparaiso. Stolen from the van was a $200 GPS unit.
