Northwest Indiana and northeast Illinois roads aren't expected to see major snow accumulation tonight, even as snow flurries begin falling.
The National Weather Service in Romeoville, Ill., said by 6 a.m. Wednesday, there should be less than a half-inch of accumulation. Light snowfall should continue during the day but it shouldn't cause major problems, according to meteorologist Nathan Marsili. Some areas could see 2- to 3-tenths of an inch of snow on the ground by Thursday at midnight.
On Wednesday, the high temperature could reach 32 degrees.
The greater chance for snow accumulation is between Friday night and Saturday when a cold air system moves through the area, Marsili said.
On Tuesday, icy roads were blamed for accidents in Indiana, including one that killed a Petersburg woman on Ind. 57 about 30 miles north of Evansville.
The Gibson County Sheriff's Department says a northbound Pontiac Firebird apparently went out of control near Oakland City about 1:15 a.m. and collided with a coal truck in the opposite lane. The car's driver, who was killed, was identified as Ebony Star Alvey, 20.
