CALUMET CITY | A police chase that started in Calumet City ended with a crash and injuries in Hammond.

Quincy Latimore, 34, of Hanover Park, Ill., was charged with driving while suspended and refusal to identify. He was transported to Lake County Jail, according to Hammond Police Department records. Latimore also was charged with traffic violations, Calumet City Police Chief Ed Gilmore said.

Latimore's Oldsmobile Aurora struck the side of a Honda Civic at 6:18 p.m. Sunday at the intersection of Columbia Avenue and 169th Street in Hammond after running a red light and striking a traffic signal pole, according to the crash report.

Domingo Rositas, 54, and Linda Rositas, 54, both of Hammond, were injured in the crash and transported to St. Margaret Mercy Healthcare Centers in Hammond, the report said. Linda Rositas was trapped in the Civic and complained of pain in her chest, the report said. They were treated and released, a hospital spokeswoman said.

At first, police believed the suspect may have exposed himself, but it turned out the man had been in an argument with two women, Gilmore said. When police arrived, Latimore took off, Gilmore said.

"He started fleeing when our officers appeared on the scene," he said. "It was reckless and initiated by the offender."

The chase lasted about five or six minutes and was not at a high speed, Gilmore said.

Police said they did everything they could to protect residents.

"We always remember our No. 1 (priority) is safety," he said.

Times staff writer Lauri Keagle contributed to this report.
