Board may OK Sauk Village principal's hiring this week
On July 1, Schrum Memorial School will have a full-time assistant principal.
The Hoover-Schrum Elementary District 157 School Board last week approved the hiring of Dana Ash for the position. She is being given a two-year contract and will receive an annual salary of $67,600 for the 2008-09 school year.
During the past school year, Ash split her time at Schrum between teaching and serving as part-time assistant principal.
Other D.157 hires
The District 157 board also approved the hiring of two part-time custodians and two full-time teachers.
The board welcomed Jetaun Jones as a sixth-grade math teacher and David Hooks as an eighth-grade social studies teacher.
Jones and Hooks are set to begin Aug. 25, and their salaries will be determined once a collective bargaining agreement has been approved.
Hired as part-time custodians, effective June 11, are Maria Torres and Maurice White.
Torres and White will be paid $10 hourly.
Teacher resigns
The Hoover-Schrum board accepted the resignation of Schrum Memorial School social studies teacher Kerry Griffin.
Griffin stepped down at the end of the school year.
District gets summer helpers
Joshua Kresich, Jeremiah and Jasmine Barnes, Malcolm Malone, LaTavia Taylor, Darius Barker, Adero Knott and Raeesa Sadat are expected to begin work today as summer student helpers in District 157.
The students will work from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. weekdays through Aug. 8 and will be paid a $7.50 an hour.
Kresich is board member John Kresich's son; Jeremiah and Jasmine Barnes are board President Natalie Barnes' son and daughter; Taylor is board member Kenneth Taylor's daughter; Sadat is former board member Vera Brooks' daughter; and Knott is Schrum Memorial School Principal Bennie Knott's niece.
D.168 may name principal Thursday
The Sauk Village Elementary District 168 School Board on Thursday may approve the hiring of a new Strassburg Elementary School principal.
A south suburban school principal is being recommended for the position being left vacant by the resignation of Principal Jan Zevkovich.
Zevkovich is set to become principal of Walker Intermediate School in Tinley Park on July 1.
The board last week was given information about the Strassburg principal candidate, whose name has not yet been made public.
