More than 2,000 people have obtained tickets for a Tuesday debate between candidates for Indiana governor.

The debate between incumbent Republican Mitch Daniels, Democrat candidate Jill Long Thompson and Libertarian candidate Andy Horning will be at 7 p.m. at the Star Plaza Theatre in Merrillville.

The debate is being sponsored by the Indiana Debate Commission, a nonpartisan group formed by representatives of more than 20 nonpartisan Indiana organizations.

"We are very pleased with the interest shown by residents of Northwest Indiana," said William Nangle, Times executive editor and commission member. "It is an opportunity for citizens to hear the views of the candidates up close."

Daniel Lowery, vice president of Calumet College of St. Joseph and moderator of the WYIN-TV program "Northwest Indiana Focus," will serve as debate moderator.

Questions, including those of specific interest to Northwest Indiana, have been submitted by e-mail and mail to the commission. No questions will be taken from the audience.
