EAST CHICAGO | A person of interest is being sought by police in connection with the shooting death of a south side man Thursday night.

Harris Brown, 27, of the 5000 block of Magoun Avenue, died at a Chicago hospital two hours after numerous shots were reported fired at 8:18 p.m. at the corner of Magoun Avenue and 150th Street.

Family members told police Brown was walking a few doors down to the corner store when they heard the gunshots.

They drove Brown, who had bullet wounds to his chest, back and forearm, to St. Catherine Hospital, from which he was airlifted to the Illinois trauma center, according to police.

The resident of a home near the store told police several shots also hit her building, damaging her screen door and entry door, and police said another building in the 5000 block of Magoun also was struck.

Witnesses described a man they told police they saw running away from the corner immediately after the shooting, but detectives declined to offer any further information Saturday, pending the filing of charges or an arrest.
