Portage running back Albert Evans has committed to Purdue.
The senior told The Times of his commitment after visiting the West Lafayette campus on Monday with his mother Kecia. The Times All-Area first-team selection said he told Purdue assistant head coach Mark Hagen of his decision and Evans said he would make a formal announcement either Tuesday or Wednesday.
Evans, who wants to get into sports medicine, said Purdue was the right fit academically and athletically. He said he also had scholarship offers from Indiana, Illinois, Cincinnati, Akron and Northern Illinois. He said he and his parents weighed the pros and cons of all schools.
"It's the Big Ten, one of the best conferences in the country and you play in big games in front of big crowds," Evans said. "I think I have a chance to play. Some people have a few running backs in each class.
"I am honored to play in that conference."
