Take a trip to the Museum of Science & Industry with the Calumet Memorial Park District on June 27. The $14 per person fee includes transportation and admission to the Omnimax Theater. Casino trip | Calumet City

Join the Calumet Memorial Park District at Blue Chip Casino on June 30. The coach bus will depart at 8:30 a.m. and return by 4:30 p.m. Attendees must be 21 and older. The fee is $15 per person, and includes a $10 lunch voucher plus $10 in E-play for every 1,500 points earned. Registration is required and is now being taken at the Memorial Park Recreation Office, 612 Wentworth Ave.

Music festival | Chicago

Chicago's Grant Park Music Festival celebrates its 74th annual season with a wide ranging series of classical music concerts and special events at the state-of-the-art Frank Gehry-designed Jay Pritzker Pavilion in Millennium Park. Barber and Brahms will perform at 6:30 p.m. today at the pavilion.

Health workshop | Chicago Heights

A breast health education workshop is at 10 a.m. June 14 in the Fellowship Hall of First Presbyterian, 900 Thomas. Police auction | Lynwood

The Lynwood Police Department will have its annual auction June 21 at the Lynwood Police Department, 21460 Lincoln Highway. Items will include bicycles, computers, monitors and accessories, cameras, and other unclaimed or unused property. Viewing and registration for bidders is from 8 to 9 a.m. Bidding will start promptly at 9 a.m. and will last until all items are sold. All sales are final. Cash and checks (with proper ID) will be accepted. Anyone identifying property must provide proof through a police report or receipt.

Folk music | Park Forest

GIRLS VOLLEYBALL | Munster

Girls entering fifth to eighth grade can learn and reinforce skills and fundamentals in league play. Practices will be determined by coaches. A team shirt and award is included in the fee. BENEFIT RIDE | Hammond

A ride for longtime resident James Hughes is set for June 14. Riders start at 11 a.m. at Shortstops, 3949 Hohman Ave. The ride will end at Leroy's Hot Stuff, 333 W. U.S. 20 in Portage. All donations will go directly to Hughes, a U.S. veteran and longtime rider at other benefits, and his family. He was just diagnosed with stage four lung cancer. The event will include raffles, food, music, tip board and door prizes. Motorcycles and cars are welcome. The fee is $10 per person or $15 per couple.

YOUNG EAGLE FLIGHTS | VALPARAISO

Experimental Aircraft Association Chapter 104 will host its annual fly-in/drive-in pancake breakfast June 15 at the Porter County Municipal Airport, 4207 Murvihill Road. The all-you-can-eat pancake breakfast will be served from 7 to 11:30 a.m. Free Young Eagle Flights will be offered between 8 a.m. and 1 p.m. Children 8 to 17 years old must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Visitors can visit the Indiana Air Museum and see a restored 1943 Howard aircraft and other World War II aircraft.

Burgers for badges | Chicago

Hard Rock Cafe Chicago is celebrating Founders' Day, the company's 37th anniversary, by honoring those who serve and protect the public. The restaurant will offer public servants Hard Rock Legendary Burgers for 71 cents, commemorating 1971, the birth year of Hard Rock. All day on June 14, community servants including police, firefighters and emergency medical technicians, are invited to visit participating Hard Rock Cafes including the one in Chicago, 63 W. Friends of the Lowell Public Library are hosting the annual summer Children's Paperback Book Sale through June 25 in the Lowell Public Library's main room, 1505 E. Commercial Ave. Hundreds of stories of adventure, mystery, friendship, humor, chillers and fantasy are available, as well as biographies, pet care, world record books, code and other nonfiction books. Poster and novelty items are also available. With each purchase, fill out a slip for a drawing for $10 in book fair merchandise. The drawing will be held June 16. Proceeds purchase books for the library and prizes for Summer Reading Club and the YA Reading Contest.
