Hammond man who died found outside Griffith tavern
GRIFFITH | Police on Thursday were questioning a person of interest in connection with the death of a 25-year-old Hammond man, police detective Don McCarter said.
He said the case remains under investigation with interviews continuing.
McCarter said it's uncertain when or if the person in custody would be charged.
Vinson Suits, of the 5900 block of Hohman Avenue, died Wednesday morning after a fight at Rocco's on 45th at 1813 W. Glen Park Ave., according to the Lake County coroner's office and Griffith Police Chief Ronald Kotka.
Suits died from trauma to the head as a result of an altercation, the coroner's spokesman said
Suits was pronounced dead at 3:13 a.m. Wednesday in the emergency room at The Community Hospital in Munster, the coroner's spokesman said.
"It seems to have started in the bar area and spilled out into the parking lot, Kotka said. Details surrounding the nature of the altercation that led to the killing are still under investigation, he said.
He said his department has had no prior run-ins with the victim and has not had any problems with violent crimes at Rocco's on 45th in the past.
