A Portage man died in an accident on Interstate 80 Friday afternoon after suffering a heart attack and crashing the semi he was driving into a concrete wall.
Around 4 p.m., Robert Yoder, 64, of Portage was driving a straight truck-tanker westbound on I-80 just west of Calumet Avenue when the semi drove off the road to the right and hit the outside concrete barrier wall. The truck was loaded with 3,500 gallons of used oil and did not lose any of the contents.
Indiana State Police said investigators believe Yoder had a heart attack before losing control of the semi. He was pronounced dead at The Community Hospital in Munster, according to police.
